PhDs

Antonin Cheymol

Antonin Cheymol’s PhD is titled “Body-based User Interfaces”, and started on November 1st 2021. It is co-directed by Ferran Argelaguet (25%), Jean-Marie Normand (25%) and also co-supervised by Anatole Lécuyer (25%) and myself (25%). In his Phd Thesis, Antonin Cheymol will tackle body-based interfaces and how they will impact interaction in Mixed Reality.

Adriana Galán Villamarín

Adriana Galán Villamarín’s PhD is titled “Designing and evaluating avatar embodiment and Proteus effect in augmented reality” and started on October 2024. It is directed by Jean-Marie Normand and co-supervised by myself and Anatole Lécuyer. In her PhD Thesis, Adriana Galán Villamarín will tackle the design and perception of avatars in augmented reality and explore how embodying them in the physical world can elicit a Proteus Effect. This PhD is part of the ANR funded project ASTRAL.

Chenyao Li

Chenyao Li’s PhD is titled “Exploring the use of avatars in virtual urban environments” and started on November 2024. It is directed by Jean-Marie Normand and co-supervised by Marco Boffi and myself. In her PhD Thesis, Chenyao LI will aim to better understand the relation between avatars and the perception of virtual urban spaces and whether avatars can contribute to convey specific urban ambiances. This PhD is part of the ANR funded project PACAP.

Majd Bitar

Majd Bitar’s PhD is titled “Keeping together during transitions between place when collaborating in social virtual reality” and will start in December 2024. It is directed by Yannick Prié and co-supervised by Jean-Philippe Rivière, Jean-Marie Normand and myself. In his PhD Thesis, Majd Bitar will focus on transitions between places within social VR environments (e.g., navigating within a VR environment or teleporting between environments) and their impact on collaboration. This PhD is part of the PePR funded project eNSEMBLE.
